All About Mining - Mining for a STEAM Education

    Overview

“Mining for a STEAM Education” is a do-at-your-own-pace professional development course to guide K-12 educators through the mining cycle with a focus on STEAM concepts. STEAM represents educational concepts that focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. STEAM-engaged students explore scientific concepts collaboratively through inquiry and problem-based learning methods throughout a creative process.

Whether we realize it or not, everyone in civilization today depends heavily on mining. People that wish to make the world a better place must understand their reliance on responsible and safe mining. Most of our technologies and innovations are derived from mined materials. The modern mining industry has countless examples of activities and lessons that can readily convey STEAM concepts. This course will guide a teacher through the mining cycle, while introducing numerous classroom activities to supplement nearly every school subject.

There are two components of Mining for a STEAM Education:

The FREE and at-your-own-pace online video content may be completed by anybody in the world, regardless of association with educational institutions.

            • If you are a teacher in Nevada, please register for one of the Nevada sessions as Nevada has a dedicated program for recertification credits.
            • If you are a teacher anywhere else in the world, please register for one of the Colorado sessions.
